Hi 5th Grade Families,

Hope you had a wonderful, relaxing Thanksgiving break. It was strange not seeing the students for so long. I missed them!
Holiday Party Sign-Up
Below you will find the sign-up for the Holiday Party. It will be Wednesday, December 20, in the morning. We will also be doing an optional book exchange. Students may draw a name later this week and bring a new or gently used book for the person whose name they draw. Students are not required to participate, but it is a really fun activity. It will be a PJ day and there will be time throughout the day to silently read their new books. Please see the parent email sent home today for the link to the holiday party sign-up.
Thanks for your help!
Reading Logs and SOAR Club
November reading logs are due Friday, December 1st. New reading logs will be sent home in Friday folders. The SOAR party for November is this Friday the 1st as well!
In math, we started Unit 3- Multiplying and Dividing Fractions- today. Math HW will continue to be each Wednesday night.  We flexibly grouped kids for this unit based on their Unit 3 pretest and previous understandings of fractions.
In writing, we are working on Informational/Expository Writing on topics of personal interest and expertise. This unit has a heavy emphasis on organization and the structure of writing informational pieces. Students will work toward writing a multi-paragraph essay about their topic in a few weeks.
Social Studies
For Social Studies, the Colonial Brochure (online) is due this WEDNESDAY.  All work can be found on (homework). They will be presenting their work that day. Monday, we will begin the American Revolution unit! YAY!
MAP Mid-Year Assessment
This week, we are beginning middle-of-the-year MAP testing in 5th grade. Kids will take math, reading, and writing tests online during the day over the next 2 weeks. Our first test is Thursday afternoon, and we will be taking the reading test.
There is a band concert on Friday, December 15 around 10:30am. More information to follow.
Colonial In-House Field Trip
The Colonial field trip on the 16th was amazing, thanks to the volunteers, and especially Katte Judd who organized and put on the whole event. It was a great time for all the kids and the adults! Thanks again to Katte Judd- she organized the entire day for our kids. There is a link to some fun pictures to look at from that day in the parent email sent home today.
Thanks so much for helping to support the school by going to see the movie Wonder. It is such a great film. Perfect for any age! The total raised for Blue Heron through the Filmraiser organization should be coming this week.
Thanks so much and have a great week. Let me know if you have any questions!
